The Honourable Commissioner Bureau for Special Duties, Delta state Barr. Ernest Ogwezzy, through the State emergency management agency( SEMA), yesterday presented some relief materials to some recent victims of rainstorms and fire disaster in Ubulu- Uku in Aniocha South LGA, Asaba in Oshimili south, Kwale in Ndokwa west.In his speech, Barr. Ogwezzy appealed to Deltans to plant trees and flowers in their environment in order to reduce the impact of rainstorm disaster when it occurs. He noted that apart from the above action, the impacts of fire outbreak can be greatly reduced by alerting the state fire service on the following number 08030882755 who would assist vehemently in curtailing the escalation of such incidence.
Today’s ceremony is a further follow up of His Excellency’s commitment to the welfare of all Deltans, permit me to therefore once again commend the efforts of His Excellency Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa who has put all measures in place to ensure that SEMA is able to respond to the various disaster across the state, He said.Ogwezzy while addressing the victims of the disaster noted that their actions was sequel to series of appeal brought to them by the victims. He listed names of beneficiaries to include:Mrs Stella Idolor Itoko, Mrs Caroline Molokwu, Mr. Kaine Ugochukwu, Mr Ernest Ofoegbune, Mr. Sunday Ugbah, Mr. Rose Akpu, Mrs Elizabeth Obah, Mr Ashibuogwu, Mr. Daniel Azuh, Mrs Aganawu, Mrs. Nwawele Ojinji, Mr John Onwubuya and Mr Alex Obiade.
The total amount presented to them was #2, 230,000 ( Two million two hundred and thirty thousand naira), only to ameliorate the plight of the victims.Responding, one of the beneficiaries of the State government gesture, Mrs Caroline Molokwu, thanked the state Government for coming to their aide.She further explained that the cash given to them will no doubt go a long way in cushioning the hard effect of the disaster on them,assuring the Hon.Commissioner that they would make judicious use of the cash given to them.
