Delta State beyond Oil: As Gov Ifeanyi Okowa and Gabriel Ogbechie shape real agricultural investment.
The slogan, ‘Delta beyond Oil’ is not new story-lines in Delta State. It has been the song, severally and proudly sang by successive administrations, not just from their gigantic electoral campaign podium but across the airwaves. It was also clear that the concept gained top-level endorsement and accolades even from non-Deltans and global economic-watchers.
However, the sad and very shameful reality is that several economic initiatives aimed at making the state self-reliance from non-oil and Abuja crumb were obviously mere newspaper talks and conduit pipes.Otherwise, what is the state of several farm projects set up by past administrations? What is the state of the much-hyped Warri and Ogwashi-uku Wildlife Parks?.The most heart-warming news is that the incumbent Ifeanyi Okowa-led leadership is fast changing the narrative and carving a rare niche for itself. It has signed a $20 million MoU with Norsworthy Investment, a private firm, for the establishment of oil palm processing plant at Akwukwu-Igbo Oshimili North. The firm is chaired by result-driven business mogul, Gabriel Ogbechie.
Gabriel Ogbechie, the uncommon philanthropist and humane employer of labour, has equally assured that the firm is commencing clearing work on the acquired 3,000 acres of land as soon as possible. He further hinted that much funds would injected into the project while thousands of meaningful jobs would be created.Who says that Delta State cannot effectively beat agricultural records already set by states like Lagos? Who says Okowa is not delivering in areas where others are still tracing the lines?
