Rihanna charitable program to donate bikes to scholarship earners in Malawi.

Rihanna doesn’t need an invisible jet or Batmobile to prove she’s a superhero, just a few reliable bikes. The Anti singer, who routinely pushes for girls’ access to education worldwide through her Clara Lionel Foundation, is taking her commitment to academia one step further.Yesterday August 3 2017,Rihanna announced a five-year “1 KM Action” program that will donate bikes to scholarship earners to help them get to school, particularly in Malawi, where dropout rates are particularly high.
There are 4.6 million primary-school-age children in Malawi, and only eight percent complete secondary school.“I’m so happy about the Clara Lionel Foundation’s new partnership with ofo because it will help so many young people around the world receive a quality education, and also help the young girls of Malawi get to school safely, cutting down those very long walks they make to and from school all alone,” Rihanna said in a statement.
The first wave of bikes has already been put into motion.Rihanna visited Malawi most recently in January as part of the Global Partnership for Education. She visited schools to get a better sense of what areas needed which tools to advance and thrive.
