"The second coming of President Muhammadu Buhari has been quite disappointing, but one of his standing qualities which has remained “untainted” is his insistence on indiscipline.Even his critics begrudgingly concede that Buhari remains unmovable in that regard. However,of what value is Buhari’s discipline if he cannot impress that virtue on the people he has chosen to help rule the country.Since President Buhari took office, appointees of the Presidency have acted with impunity, engaging in illegal activities that have been tacitly endorsed by President Buhari’s refusal to publicly condemn their actions or take legal action against them.
"The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Engr.David Babachir Lawal was indicted for awarding a contract to a company owned by himself by the Senate Committee investigating the mounting humanitarian crisis in North East Nigeria. The Presidency responded by accusing the Senate of not giving his “almighty” SGF fair hearing, only for Babachir to be indicted a second time by a three-man panel led by Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
"In the same vein, the Comptroller General of Customs Col.Hammed Ali once had a row with the Nigerian Senate over his refusal to wear his uniform to appear before the Senate, this act of civil disobedience elicited no reaction from President Buhari as the customs C.G. dragged the Senate in the mud and the issue died a natural death. The Federal Minister of Power,Works and HousingBabatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) in June 2017 had an issue with the Senate as it relates to his ministry’s budget. He descended to name calling until he later tendered an unreserved apology. As usual, the President turned a blind eye to it.
"There was also the scandalous recruitment drive by the Department of State Services (DSS) which favoured new recruits from Northern states at the detriment of others.Even though complaints were received from well-meaning Nigerians including the National Assembly,Baba failed to call the DSS DG to order.Still towing the same line of indiscipline, the Minister of InteriorAbdulrahman Dambazau and the Attorney General of the Federation who were exposed as the brains behind the secret reinstatement of a wanted fugitive Abdulrasheed Maina into the federal civil service are still members of Buhari’s cabinet despite doing damage to the administration’s “anti-corruption” campaign.
"This insubordination has also spread to the law enforcement agencies; as the inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris dragged the Senate to court for summoning him to respond to a petition accusing him of abusing his position and office. All these occurrences chronicled above has brought one shame or the other to the Buhari Presidency and its unbelievable these acts of impunity and indiscipline is taking place under the watch of a man renowned for his stance on ‘Indiscipline’ and ‘Impunity’.The silence and “siddon-look”approach of the President to this issue has shown that Buhari is aiding and abetting the out indiscipline and impunity carried out by his cronies.
